Amber's Birthday Trip, April 2018

19th to the 28th April

Our usual trip to Peterborough in April for Ambers Birthday and as Dot has now retired with me, we also booked a site at Sandringham after that, just to do something different.

Peterborough 19th to the 23rd April

Thursday 19th April

After we arrived at Ferry Meadows Campsite and got set up, young Ralph and Amber arrived after she finished school. Her sisters and boyfriends arrived just after with young Mason. The girls spent the time playing with Mason and went over to the playground.

When the other went, as it was Ambers birthday, what did we do, we went out for tea. We walked to the Beefeater Granary for a birthday tea. The food was good but I think it is a bit expensive.

Ambers Birthday

Amber spent the night with us in the van.

Friday 20th April

Today we went out for a drive, and ended up in Ely, Amber slept most of the way there though. Once parked up we set off round the town and got our lunch, sandwiches from Subway and sat outside the cathedral to eat then.

The cathedral is very nice but very big for a small town, so we had a look inside before carrying in with our shopping. We had a good look around but didn't stay that long, long enough for an ice cream though.

After that we had a drive around other places in the area before heading back to the site. I think I did the usual BBQ for tea and Amber stayed with us again that night.

Saturday 21st April

Early afternoon Me and Dot went for a walk around Ferry Meadows, we walked for over and hour but it started to rain so we head back.

Later that afternoon Ambers mam came to pick her up and Ralph went home leaving Me and Dod for a quiet time.

Sunday 22nd April

We just had a very quiet day in the van and didn't do much at all. It was raining after all, we just watched TV and drank beer.

Sandringham 23rd to the 28th April

Monday 23rd April

Today we got packed up and for a change we headed off to Sandringham, we had no idea what was there we just had the time to do it. Actually we did know the the Queen had a house there but not much else.

It did not take too long to get there and we got parked up in a nice spot but the weather wasn't too good so we just stayed in the van. As yesterday we just had a nice rest.

Tuesday 24th April

Another day were we just did nothing. I think we did use the chip van that night, it was very unorganised though and after queuing up to order I was told that my food would be ready in half an hour. Not very well organised.

Wednesday 25th April

Well today we had to do something, so we got ready and set off through the woods to Sandringham house. After we had walked a bit through the woods we came across the Camping and Caravan site, this was much closer than we were.

When we got to the house we had to pay to get in, which we did as we had walked all the way there. Before we went in we had a quick look around the caff and shops just outside the gates. Once in it was quite a walk to the house and before we went in we had a quick look around the gardens.

Sandringham House

We were not allowed to take photos inside the house and the actual toure was not through much of the house but what we did see was fairly interesting. The hall was very interesting as this is where the Queen and staff would sit together in the winter to watch films.

From there we wandered over to Sandringham Museum where there was plenty of things to see. With quite a selection of expensive royal cars and toys from Prince Charles.

It was the cars though that were pretty spectacular and there were lots and lots of them to see. There was even a filling station there and also a caff/bar. So we had sandwiches in there and I had a beer which was not bad at all.

After that we had a walk around the rest of the gardens that we had not seen on the way in. There were lakes and plenty of flowers even though it was still early in the year.

From the hall we walked back over to the cafe and shop just outside the entrance and I bought some more beer. The walk back to the van did not take as long as this morning (even though we did take a wrong turn for a bit), by sticking to the road it was less in distance.

Thursday 26th April

Today we did something different, we got the bus into King's Lynn and I used my bus pass for the first time. We had checked out the bus times previously but still had to wait ages for the bus to arrive. In King's Lynn We walked around the shops then made our way to the river side. King's Lynn seems to be the last town on the river Great Ouse, anyway we walked along the river and popped into a restaurant there for dinner.

The Rathskeller was a very nice eating place and the beer would have been better with a menu to show it, so I had to have two.

From there we wandered around the shops again but got board but soon found a Spoons and a different beer. Only had the one in there though and went for the bus back to the site.

Friday 27th April

We had thought of moving on to somewhere else but in the end just headed home.
