York Again, Late 2019

10th to the 13th November

This year we have not used the van much at all, in fact this was only our second trip away and the last trip of the year.

We have had plenty of time away but mainly not used the van, for next year I am not sure if we will use the van at all or will we sell it.

Anyway we had booked York about a year ago but I had made a cockup, we had booked five days but it was my mother's 90th birthday on our last day there. So I had to cancel two days at the end of the booking, so it was only three days away.

Sunday 10th November

One of the easiest drives down we have ever had, still held up at High Petergate as usual, although the crowds coming from the remembrance day service at the cathedral were huge. Even getting onto the site was very quick.

View of the new hotel

After we were set up we wandered into town, it was very cold but we were well wrapped up though. We wandered over Skeldergate Bridge and over into Fenwick's, then into the main shopping area. We wandered into HMV to get a disc for Nicole to give to my Mam as a birthday present. After shopping and walking for what seemed like miles, we eventually went for a pint.

We went into the Market Cat, we got sat in the far corner right out of the way and eventually had our tea in there. We had a pizza very nice, as for beer I had Tapped Brew, Station Porter, stout it was very nice but ran out after the second one.

Drinking

From there we moved on to the Kings and had another couple in there by the fire, before we went back to the van.

Monday 11th November

Back in town and after the shopping, we looked for something for tea and eventually ended up in Kennedy's. As usual on Monday it was two meals for the price of one and we had a couple of burgers and I do not think they were cooked properly. I got another new beer in there a Northern Monk, Eternal and that was not as good as it sounds. Not sure that we will be back there any more.

So from there we moved on to the Market Cat, where I had a Loch Lomond, Silkie Stout, another fine beer, Dot had the wheat beer as usual in there, before we then moved on to the Pavement Vaults, We had a couple in there before moving back to the van.

Tuesday 12th November

Today we wandered around the town walls (anticlockwise) to B&M were we went in to get some shopping. Just along from there was Homesense (part of TK-Maxx), so we also went into there for more. Next in the row was Morrisons were we just had a cup of tea and a rest.

From there we continued our walk around the outside of the walls to Monkbar, were we wandered back to the main shops. When we were sick of shopping guess what we did next, yes we went to the Market Cat for a beer. I had a Thornbridge, Lord Marples, not a bad bitter at all.

We met an older couple in there over from the States, he was actually from York and they had just bought a small place here to use for part of the year.

Full Moon

We then moved on to the Pavement Vaults, and met the couple from the States again in there. We sat with them and had a good conversation. In there I had an Arbor, All The Mo's, not to bad at all. After they had gone we moved on to the Spoons at the other end of the street.

In there I had a Great Newsome, Sleck Dust, another not too bad and Dot had a fruity cider. We also had a nice chicken in white sauce each and of course another beer.

Wednesday 13th November

As usual we drove straight home and again the traffic was very good. It will be next year before we get away agine.
